Fox Flyers

Who are the Fox Flyers?

The Fox Flyers are a community of supporters who are able to make a financial commitment to help get Wollangarra on its feet again. As a Fox Flyer, you commit to donating $50/month throughout 2022. Combined, the Fox Flyers will fund a significant amount of Wollangarra’s costs in costs of running programs and events in 2022. The Fox Flyers are connected to Wollangarra in a range of ways, but all believe in the unique, simple place that it is, and the opportunities and experiences it offers both young people and its far-reaching community.

Why is Wollangarra doing this?

It’s been a tough few years for all of us, our volunteer staff have been working hard to keep the place going through 2020 and the ups-and-downs of COVID lockdowns and restrictions in 2021. With a bit of ongoing financial help from our community (that’s you!) we can continue to get back on our feet in 2022 and get our new staff trained up, get the veggie garden pumping, host community events, cover sponsored spots, and get as many young people back into the mountains as we can in 2022.

What if I want to help but can’t afford to?

No worries at all. We’re aware that not everyone in our community will be able to support us in this way. This is just one of many ways to help. If you can’t commit to a year, we accept one off donations (here), and, restrictions-allowing, we are hoping for work parties and volunteering to be possible throughout 2022. Another way to help is to share the word about the Fox Flyers with friends, family, and colleagues who you think might be able to help out financially. Don’t underestimate the power you have by having a chat or sharing a Facebook post.

Remember, Wollangarra always has sponsored places for any young person who would like to come but can’t afford to click here.

What do I get in exchange?

As a Fox Flyer you become part of a small but important community of people that are helping Wollangarra get back to what it does best (Young People + High Places) after a few years of uncertain times with COVID lockdowns and being unable to run programs consistently. Unfortunately we were unable to host the Fox Flyers Members Dinner in 2021 and are hoping to put on a feast in 2022 to Thank all old and new Fox Flyers.

Where does the money go?

Donations from the Fox Flyers go into the Wollangarra Public Fund. This money will be used to train new Staff, host community events to get the Woll community back together, run programs, offer sponsored spots to young people in 2022.

Can I receive a tax receipt for my donations?

Absolutely. Wollangarra is a registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), and is on the Register of Environment Organisations. Donations through the Fox Flyer program are fully tax deductible. We’ll ask you about whether you’d like receipts when you sign up.

What if I’d like to make a one-off donation of $600 instead of donating $50/month?

We’re very happy to support you to make a one-off donation. Please email directors@wollangarra.org.au and we’ll be in touch to let you know how to make the donation through bank transfer.

Can my monthly donations as a Fox Flyer pay for my young person to come on a program

Unfortunately not, Fox Flyers will still have to pay for their young persons course fees. Remember, we have sponsored places available if needed (here).

Can I stop making donations any time during the year?

Of course, although ideally we’d love our Fox Flyers to commit for the whole twelve months. If you can no longer afford to make donations, simply email directors@wollangarra.org.au and we can either cancel or pause your monthly donations.

What if I was a Fox Flyer in 2021 and want to continue my monthly donations after 2021?

Wow, you’re really committed to helping us out. This is great to hear. Unfortunately, your 2021 monthly donations will have been automatically cancelled at the end of 2021. So to become a Fox Flyer for another 12 months, you will have to sign up again to be a Fox Flyer for 2022.

Why the name ‘Fox Flyers’?

For those of you who have not been to Wollangarra before, the flying fox is the main way of getting in and out of the property. Over the last 30 years almost everything on site has come over the fox, as well as thousands of young people, community members and volunteers.
It is the heart of the Wollangarra experience, with some Wollies claiming that a night time ride under the stars and over the Macalister River into Wollangarra is the best way to do it.
If you’ve never made the trip, there’s a virtual version for you to enjoy below.
